English
English at Leven Valley School
Our English curriculum is designed to equip children with the fundamental skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, which enable them to flourish across all other subject areas. At the same time, it intends to inspire children with a real love of books, role-play and drama, and enable them to freely explore a broad and varied range of text types, including stories, poetry, plays and non-fiction.
English is taught directly for at least one hour each day in all classes, and the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening are further developed and practised within other curriculum areas.
Throughout their time at Leven Valley, children have lots of opportunities to use their developing English skills for a meaningful purpose. Click on the links in the menu to find out more about the teaching of different aspects of English and its impact at Leven Valley, as well as ideas for supporting your child at home.
